Vandals.
The word itself has come to mean pillagers and
destroyers. Perhaps no
tribe is more known for the destruction it wrecked
throughout southern Europe than the Vandals. Under
Gaiseric, the Vandals swept from Spain across Roman
Africa, conquering the entire territory and making
Carthage their capital. From there, Gaiseric
conquered Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica. With
intelligence in hand that Rome itself was virtually
undefended, he sacked Rome in 455AD, in an orgy of
brutal pillage that lasted fourteen days, ending with
untold destruction and Gaiseric enslaving the fallen
Emperor’s wife and two daughters.
Gaiseric was considered
the most cunning man of his century.
This
is represented in Fall of Rome by the Vandals
receiving a Level 4 Agent at the onset of
the campaign – a significant advantage in
covert matters that should be exploited.
The Vandals start in Viennensis, the province
closest to their historical home before
their sea-bound exploits. Now the
Vandal player turns his attention back to
the Continent. Vandal troops are very
fast and strong in both archery and cavalry
arms. Their relatively weak infantry
means they must be cautious in restrictive
terrain and will have a difficult time assaulting
cities.
